This school year’s NSA Photo Contest kicked off on November 26 and ended at midnight central time on December 22, encouraging students to get creative with their photography. The popular contest was open to students of all grade levels at NSA.  Here are the details about the contest, as well as the announced winners.

The theme for all photos submitted was “a day in the life of an NSA student,” giving students the freedom to show everyone exactly how and where they do school. With an online school, everyone’s day looks a little bit different, whether you live in another country outside the US, or you’re a competitive sports player traveling around the United States. Going to NSA means that you can do school virtually anywhere you have internet access. The result is a variety of schedules and locations where students do school, making the photography contest very interesting.

The announcement posted in Teams gave specific directions for what types of photos could be submitted. The announcement also gave out useful tips to help student photographers. Photos were judged on quality, creativity, applicability to NorthStar, and the following of instructions. Example photos from last year’s contest were provided to get students thinking about what they might have in their photo. One of the most important requirements was that photos submitted had to have an NSA student present in the picture. The first-place prize for the photo contest was $100, the second-place prize was $75, the third-place prize was $50, and the fourth-place prize was $25. Winners could choose to receive their prize as cash, a gift card, or as NSA credit.

On January 8, I opened my email to see virtual confetti congratulating the winners, as they had just been announced. Congratulations to Abigail Rinkenberger for winning first place. Her winning photo is pictured at the beginning of this article. Ms. Armstrong said, “We are thankful for all of the submissions and look forward to using many of them to highlight NSA on our website and social media! Keep an eye out for the next schoolwide photo contest!” Consider taking a moment to visit NSA’s website, at northstar-academy.org, to see the photos advertising our amazing online school.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo showing NSA, and congratulations to all the winners. Please consider joining us next year and submitting a photo when the contest is announced.
