Be A Neighbor - Serving Afghanistan

By Mrs. Stephanie Shafer

December is already upon us and Christmas is quickly approaching! This is such a special time of year. It is a time of great joy and celebration of the birth of Christ our Savior as well as a time to show love to those around us. One of our favorite Christmas traditions here at NorthStar is our Christmas fundraiser. At the end of every year, we come together to worship through giving. NSA students host a fundraiser that highlights different cultures or organizations. This year, we are changing the name to The Blessing Project. Our focus is Afghanistan and we have three unique opportunities to bless and be blessed.

Jesus emphasizes that we are to love the Lord first and foremost. He quickly follows that by emphasizing the importance of loving our neighbors. But how can we love our neighbors to the best of our ability without first understanding the love of Christ? And furthermore, how can we love our neighbors if we do not know them?

One of our expected student outcomes for NorthStar graduates is for them to become globally minded. When our students move on to their next journeys in life, we want them to be equipped to impact society and to understand cultural diversity. We have such an amazing opportunity here at NorthStar to interact with and learn from people from all over the globe. This allows us to embrace other cultures and experience things that we may not have had the opportunity to experience otherwise. Our goal at NorthStar this Christmas is to give students an opportunity to learn about a different culture, to encourage them to embrace another culture, and to have a global impact for the kingdom of God.

Students, I encourage you to find your way to The Blessing Project Team between December 1, 2021 and January 15, 2022. You will find five channels to explore and learn all about Afghanistan and the Afghan people and culture. There will be opportunities for individual and corporate prayer as well as challenges to love your neighbors right where you are. We will look at the Bible to see what it says about refugees and being a neighbor. It will be an incredible time of connection for the NSA Community. Do not miss this opportunity!
