Club Spotlight- Creative Writing Club

By Keziah H.

As fall is now well under way, so are the clubs! There are now several clubs available for NorthStar students to join, including the Board Game Club, Gaming Club, Book Club, Missions Club, and Creative Writing Club, and more are expected to open soon. Each club has a variety of fun things to do and is run by amazing leaders! One of these clubs is the Creative Writing Club. The Creative Writing Club has been around for quite a few years, and students seem to really enjoy it as a place to roleplay, write, and read other people’s stories. But what does the club actually do?

In our club, we do all sorts of fun things. The club leaders, Naomi, Onyi, and I, make posts about once a week in each of our different channels. Naomi is in charge of the Prompts, Role Play, and Eclectic Fiction channels. Onyi has the Announcements and Lyrics and Poetry channels, and I write posts for the Sci-fi and Fantasy Fiction channels. Before, we only had a Fiction channel, but this year we realized that so many people were writing Fantasy Fiction that it should be its own channel, and we did the same for Sci-fi. Eclectic Fiction was the name we gave for every kind of fiction that was not fantasy or science fiction. These channels are meant for students to interact in, sharing their thoughts on prompts and posts, writing down their ideas, and roleplaying together in the Roleplay channel. It is a great place for creativity and teamwork to shine.

Some other things that we do include making calls and contests. For our calls, we either have members present stories they write, or we play a game. Sometimes we have a Character Crossover Call where characters from everyone’s stories meet up and go on crazy adventures. Other times we play a game called Out of Context where everyone works together to write a story sentence by sentence, but all people know is the last sentence written. The story usually makes little to no sense, but is very exciting and fun! Also, if students want NSA Connects credit, they can get it for our calls that our adult leader, Ms. Sundermeyer, attends.

So, in short, there is a lot to explore at the NorthStar Creative Writing Club! Our amazing members have already created some wonderful stories, poems, and roleplays to share. Feel free to join at any time (you are not required to post or send anything) or tell your friends about it if you think they would enjoy it, too.
