Alex M. is a senior here at NSA, who resides near Atlanta, Georgia with his family. His whole family is from the American South, and he loves a good homemade mac and cheese! Some of his hobbies include making songs with Suno AI, playing video games, and just chatting with friends. A fun fact about Alex is that he is very tall in real life but hates heights. “I have a huge fear of falling due to my terrible balance and massive amount of clumsiness," he admitted. Another fact about Alex is that he is the editor-in-chief here at the Navigator, which we affectionately call the Nav, and he has worked tirelessly over the last year to make sure the NAV was run well!
After three years working on staff, this is his final year at the Nav. Alex first came to the Navigator after being invited by Mrs. Meyer freshman year. Throughout the last three years, Alex has written many different articles. When asked his favorite, he said that it is this year's collaborative article. “It is going to be a great article, and I am so excited to see how all the Navigator members come together to talk about NSA.” Alex came up with this collaborative article idea and worked hard to make it happen. The most challenging part of being editor in chief is handling the people. Some people disagree with his leadership. However, he says that learning how to handle and adapt to different opinions is a central aspect of being a leader.
The question seniors hear the most often is “What are your plans for after graduation?” So of course, that was a question Alex answered. His plans include attending the University of Alabama to study finances and getting a masters in Business Administration! Eventually he would love to settle down and raise a family. Leading the Nav has prepared him for the future. Alex said, “My experience as editor-in-chief has prepared me in three ways. First, it has helped me see the benefits and negatives of leadership while giving me great leadership experience. Second, it has taught me how to handle disagreements better. Third, it has helped my collaboration and planning skills significantly to work so closely with the Publishing team.”
Alex has done amazing work here at the Navigator. Leading a team of journalists is no small feat and he has done it wonderfully. Here is some of his final advice for freshmen interested in the Nav, “My advice for underclassmen who want to get involved in the newspaper is to just go for it. Expand your comfort zone and try something new, since you might love it. I know that it can be hard to try something new out of the fear that it will be a bad experience, but I can assure you that the people at the Navigator will make sure that you have a great experience even if you end up finding out you are not a fan of journalism.” The Nav staff is thankful for all the hard work he has put into the newspaper this year and wish him the best in college and future endeavors!
