What You Should Know about Spiritual Life at NorthStar

by Caylee Lamb

This month’s article is all about Spiritual Life and involvement at NSA. I interviewed Emma Groskreutz, the 2019-2020 Spiritual Life Leader, to get an insight into the Spiritual Life section of the school. Keep reading to hear how you can get involved.

When did you become Spiritual Life Leader? What made you decide to become Spiritual Life Leader?

I officially started my term at the end of July, since that’s when the new student council started up! Last year, I had led a devotional group along with alumni Haley Rahlf and Hudson Roseboom. Through that, I became really good friends with Haley, the 2018 Spiritual Life Leader, and helped her out with various projects. Since it’s an appointed position, she asked me in May if I would like to take over, and I gladly accepted!

Can you talk a little bit about the different areas of Spiritual Life that students can get involved in?

We have a bunch of different available programs on Teams for Spiritual Life!

We have our Bible Memorization Group, a biweekly meeting (held every other week) with leader Chana Noeth where we memorize scripture and play fun games. We have the daily dose section, daily encouragement, and devotionals from a bunch of different student authors. The prayer warrior’s program is a collection of students who provide extra prayer and talking time with the students who need more support and love. The prayer hall is where the student body can post their prayer requests to be received and prayed for by students all over the world! We have one current devotional group, the Romans study for high school girls led by Lydia Roseboom.

Make sure to regularly check the Announcements channel to receive updates on opportunities to lead or participate in these programs!

What are some things you want students to know about Spiritual Life at NSA?

You are always welcome to come to Mrs. Stephanie Shafer or I if you need extra prayer, spiritual help, or counseling. The NSA staff are incredible at providing a safe and wonderful environment for personal growth through hardships. Also, make sure that you participate in as much stuff as you can!

Is there anything new coming up that you think our readers would be excited to hear about?

Attend the Spiritual Emphasis Events! They are taught by extremely knowledgeable speakers and will really transform the way that you apply the Bible to your life. The one taking place in October is called “Saturated in the Good Life.”

What is your favorite part about being Spiritual Life Leader?

My favorite part is being able to run so many amazing programs and connect with the student body through the Word of God!  It's really fun to work with the future student leaders of NorthStar to create an environment beneficial to anyone and everyone curious about the love and mercy of Christ. I also enjoy working on the student council a lot as well as closely with the NSA staff. It is amazing to have those connections and be on such a unified team.

Where can you find all of these wonderful programs? It’s all happening in the Spiritual Life channel in Teams, but you can always email Emma Groskreutz or Mrs. Stephanie Shafer if you have any questions or want more information. Perhaps you’ll consider checking it out, after you’re done with schoolwork, of course.
