A Glimpse of Global Missions Week

By Brooklyn C.

Global Missions Week took place from March 3rd to March 7th. Students had the chance to hear from speakers all around the world, to learn about cultures outside of their own, and to discuss how to serve with those spreading the gospel to non-believers. As Mr. Hester, Spiritual Life Director at NSA, says, “The goal of Global Missions Week was to ask God to open our hearts to living out the Great Commission and to see how others are fulfilling their particular callings as followers of Jesus Christ.” Mr. Hester, along with other speakers and student leaders, hosted calls of around six to ten people on average (although calls ranged anywhere from four to more than twenty attendees).

In the span of five days there were over fifteen different calls available to attend. The Missions Club, one of NSA’s student-led clubs, hosted three of those calls. They played games like Kahoot!, chatted about faith, and spoke with AMT director Jane-Marie from Overland Missions. Understanding the Great Commission and Understanding God’s Heart for the Nations were a couple of the other calls during the week. To wrap it all up, the final day featured a global prayer and celebration call, thanking God for what He did through the week and asking Him to spread the Good News to the world.

Mr. Hester, Shaune, and Blake were three hosts during the week. Blake, one of the Missions Club leaders, says one of his favorite parts of the week was getting to meet with others who are interested in missions. After all, the Great Commission is for all believers of all ages and backgrounds. Shaune, the other leader of the Missions Club, said her favorite part was having a person from her church speak on one of the sessions: “Our church and NSA overlapping was so cool to me, and I love how many kids have their heart set on missions.” Mr. Hester said it was hard to pick just one thing from the week that was his favorite, because “each moment was so different than the others and all of them were special.” The diversity of speakers and visiting missionaries was interesting to him too. “It was encouraging to see the unique ways that the gospel is going forth in different contexts.”

Global Missions Week is important for students to see what God is doing through the nations and through the lives of people everyday. The greatest news of all time is ready for anyone and everyone willing to hear.
