My NSA Theology Journey

By Avery P.

It is no surprise that NorthStar Academy has excellent course options. However, I have found the Bible classes to be the most beneficial classes in my High School career so far. As a sophomore in high school, I took the Theology in Real Life course. Now, as a junior, I am taking Foundations for The Christian Worldview. These classes build on each other. In the theology class, we learned about what we believe as Christians and the basic themes of Christianity. Expanding on this, Foundations for the Christian Worldview discusses and teaches students how to defend their faith and answer any questions they may encounter from others.. Both of these classes have been valuable to my walk with the Lord.

In Theology in Real Life, students explore the framework and basic principles of Christianity. The course dives into “Creation,” “Death,” “Heaven,” and “Revelation.” Diving into these topics was a formative part in my walk with Christ. I grew up in a Christian household, but part of my testimony has been studying and figuring out what I believe. This class was an incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and study for myself. One of my favorite parts of this class was when we studied Revelation. Many people find this book too intimidating to even open; however, this course did not shy away from it. Over the course of a couple weeks, students dive into the book, going through a few chapters, studying  life after death, theories on Jesus’ return, and whether or not this book is symbolic or not. Towards the end of the year, students get to put what they learned into action through a life application project. Needless to say, this class lit a fire in me to learn more about Christ.

Continuing on, the Foundations for a Christian Worldview class deepens your understanding of the Christian faith and teaches you how to defend it. Many believers do not fully know what they believe, much less how to advocate for our faith. That is why apologetics is so crucial for every Christian. Throughout this class, one will learn how to answer any question an unbeliever or even a doubting Christian might ask. The course starts off with logic and how it relates to the Christian faith. Then, it moves on to how we know God created the earth. Another formative part of my Christian faith is doubt. I have had many doubts about my faith, but this class has cleared up so many of them, giving me more clarity and confidence in what I believe.

I encourage everyone to take these classes and study everything on one's own time. It will truly change your life. Many believers will not get the chance to deeply study apologetics or even the theology of the Christian faith, but thanks to NSA, students get that opportunity. Thanks to NorthStar and its faculty, for implementing these classes for students. Lives will be changed because of how impactful these courses are.
