NSA's Favorite Snacks

By Keziah H.

Everyone needs to eat to live and to gain energy for the day. So a very practical part of the NSAer’s school life is the food that they enjoy, either while doing school or while taking a break from it. In this article, we will explore NorthStar students’ favorite snacks, from the sweet to the savory to the incredibly odd. Bon appétit!

First, what sweet snacks do students prefer at NSA? A sandwich with peanut butter (sometimes with grape jelly) was popular, and some students ate them toasted, while others did not. Most people agreed, however, that a fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich was not a good idea. Several students liked fruit as a snack, including one whose favorite was green grapes. One person thought that coffee made a good snack, which raises an interesting question, do drinks count as snacks? If a drink is consumed between meals and gives you sufficient energy for the day, it could count as a snack, though not a food. Bubble tea is definitely a snack, and maybe even a food, as the bubbles add a nice texture that drinks do not normally have.

For the question of savory snacks, students were even more enthusiastic. Some students who did not live in the United States had favorite snacks that they could only get occasionally, and others could eat their favorite savory foods every day if they wanted. Almost everyone seemed to want cheese in their snacks, so foods like Cheez-Its (cheese-flavored crackers) and Combos (pretzels with cheese) were often cited. One student even liked bacon and eggs with cheese as a snack! Other savory foods students liked were pringles, popcorn, and pickles, although some people thought that pickles were not a good snack idea.

Lastly, the most controversial topic on NSA snack foods was both a sweet and savory food, the snickle. This unusual food is a Snickers bar combined with a pickle, and it seems that most people either love it or hate it; there is no middle ground. Three students in the conversation thought that a snickle was a good idea, and two thought it was a very bad idea. Of these students, only one is confirmed to have actually tried it, and he refuses to show the video. So try a snickle for yourself before forming any opinions on the subject.

Hopefully, this was an enjoyable look at NSAers’ favorite snacks. If you have not tried these snacks already, I suggest giving some of them a try! Whether you prefer sweet, savory, or a combination of both, it is wonderful that God made food for us to enjoy.
