A Love Letter to High School

Dear high school,
I've put off writing this letter until the last possible moment (it’s due in an hour) because it means saying goodbye to you.
Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m so excited to say goodbye. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for my future. But at the same time, it means saying goodbye to four years of my life that shaped who I am as a person.
So many people say that high school is the best time of your life. I sure hope they’re wrong, because in my case, it was filled with constant stress, irregular sleep schedules, balancing physical exhaustion with school, feeling lonely, and so much more.
I spent three of my four years playing tennis competitively. This means I was training up to twenty hours per week, getting home at 6 pm on weekdays, and getting all my schoolwork done then. So, it’s safe to say that my high school years weren’t all that fun – hence why a large part of me is so excited to finish.
However, even though I faced many lows, there are still parts of my experience I'll remember forever. Trips I got to go on, places I visited, friends I made, teachers who mentored me, and so much more.
Saying goodbye to high school means giving up a lot. I’m moving to a new continent, saying goodbye to family and friends, and starting a whole new life in a place thousands of kilometers away from home.
I logged into Buzz for the first time as a fourteen-year-old who thought she knew everything, and boy, was I wrong. However, over time, I did grow, mature, and realize there are so many things I don’t know about, which is what makes the rest of life so exciting. There are so many books to read, languages to learn, people to meet, and places to see!
So, to high school: thank you for what you gave me and for preparing me for the next step in my life. I don’t know if I’ll miss you, but I will always be grateful for these four years.
And to any incoming freshmen or current high schoolers reading this: the next four years of your life will be unique. They don’t have to be the best, but do make the best of them. Challenge yourself, grow, meet new people, get out of your comfort zone, and remember that you still have the rest of your life ahead of you.
With love,
Zoe
